A couple of days ago, my wife and I were doing some major landscaping in our back yard and we were getting a little frustrated with the way things were going and were pretty close to uncharitable voice tones. I solemnly said to her," We lost three more soldiers in Afghanistan today" (Canadians). She replied, I know. Thanks to them here we are making a beautiful, peaceful back yard, just how we want it." We went quiet and no bickering ensued.

Canada doesn't have a huge military machine like the U.S.(years of a Liberal government saw to that), but we have a proportionally large presence in the most dangerous part of Afghanistan and our navy has been taking a leading role patrolling the Gulf.We are taking a lot of casualties (proportionally) on the ground, but our soldiers are brave and very good (especially according to the U.S. army/navy and the Taliban). Our soldiers echo what the fallen soldier in the article had said, "We don't want to leave until the job is done."

I am truly humbled by their bravery. I am also proud of their bravery.
